Before joining Iterate, Mike was the first tech hire and CTO for eBags.com, where he and his teams built highly innovative and world-class e-commerce platforms and back-office applications to power 34% CAGR between 2000 and 2008 and sales over $100 million and continued double-digit growth and profitability in the following decade. Mike’s team built - from the ground-up - the technologies that powered 1,000 supplier drop-ship programs, one retail’s first five ratings, and review platforms, an A/B split test platform in early 2000. eBags robust platform and digital expertise were cited as a critical reason for the Samsonite acquisition for $105 million.
Before eBags, Mike was Program Manager for Kenan Systems (acquired by Lucent in 1999 for $1.5 billion), where he led key Internet, digital payments, and data services projects for AOL and Qualcomm. Mike also held a management role in the IT Assurance and Advisory group at PwC (formerly Coopers & Lybrand) and various technical positions in Software Development and Infrastructure out of his undergraduate program. He received dual BS degrees in CIS and Business.
Mike has a Masters of Science in Data Science from UC Berkeley, School of Information. While there, his team won the prestigious Hal R. Varian Capstone Award. The team built Soundflux: a working prototype for sound-based fall detection with a highly accurate deep-learning model deployed on-device for privacy. Mike also evangelized and drove successful data science projects at eBags like the patent-pending interactive recommendation engine for handbags that went 3X conversion increases.
